CBD and Nerves
Scientific studies show how CBD can help to reduce pain by affecting the actual operation of nerve cells and how they can slow the propagation of pain signals. As pictured, CBD slows neurotransmitter release which slows the signal propagation, it reduces the energy production of the cell, which slows its operation, it slows the degradation of the endocannabinoids which reinforces the activation of CB1 which upregulates all of these factors. Then additional factors also kick in – Calcium reuptake slows which slows how quickly nerves can file. Potassium is lost which depolarizes the cell membrane which slows how quickly it can fire, and CBD interacts with Vanilloid receptors, which are alternate pain receptors so blocking these blocks their ability to stimulate pain signals.
All of these combine to help reduce pain through multiple mechanisms all reinforcing CBD’s effectiveness as regards pain. And this is just CBD’s effect on the propagation of a pain signal through nerve cells. There is also some research suggesting that CBD also interacts directly with pain receptors such as opioid receptors which is only just beginning. And by reducing inflammation, CBD also reduces pain associated with tissue swelling and reduces the tissue, bone, and nerve erosion that can be associated with the inflammatory response.
These tend to be longer term chronic damage associated with various neuropathies that can degrade the myelin nerve coverings, with arthritis than can degrade collagen and bone in joints, and with actual inflammation-associated tissue degradation such as bedsores.
These tend to be secondary effects associated with other inflammatory chemical messengers that are reduced by reducing inflammation and so CBD affects them indirectly. But we affect it more directly with our proprietary K Channel technology – more on that later.
